After a long day of travel on the highway, I walked into the restaurant at the hotel where we would be staying. I wanted to reserve a table for five so all of my family could share a nice evening meal, talking together about the joys of this Christmas season. After entering the restaurant, I was approached by a worker who usually worked in the back part of the kitchen.
“Pastor,” he said, “I’ve been waiting for the right time to tell you what has happened. Over the last few years I have seen you and thought about approaching you, but it didn’t seem to be the right time.”
I could tell by his quiet tone that it was hard for him to come right out with what he was about to share. I asked him to continue.
He began to elaborate, “You said my wife and I were going to have a child. Because of that, my wife I went to a fertility clinic to have a baby and the doctors discovered that my wife had cancer. But the wonderful thing is, they caught it at the right time. She had a short operation and she is now completely cancer free and will live a long life! The timing of the surgery saved her life. The amazing part of the story is that going through this process brought us to the decision to adopt a child. A little baby boy was brought to us and we knew immediately he was a perfect match for us. My wife has fallen in love with this little boy, and every day she is the happiest woman in the world, and I look forward to going home to see both of them. Thank you, pastor, for letting me tell this incredible story. Because of God‘s word, cancer is out of my wife’s life. Our little boy we love so much, is now in it.” He joyfully went on to say that it was two miracles in one!
My family came inside the restaurant at the tail end of the story. As we sat down for the dinner, I told every detail. We then understood how Christmas is for reliving gifts from God that fix things which are broken ~ to give us all a bright future as He did with this gentleman’s family!
Sent in love,
