An amazing blessing I have discovered in God is that when I am unable to fix something in myself, I just ask Him to help me and He does it in the most wonderful way. It took me a while to actually see what a wonderful Father God is, and is willing to be to us. By this I mean, He is willing to train the most intricate parts of our existence, and the tenor of our thoughts.
Our thoughts mostly spring up from the intents of our heart. As the Scripture says, “For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.” It was this simple truth, which showed me that the thoughts and intents coming from my heart are actually working against me. In times of daily prayer I began to realize that I can ask God to fix these intricate areas of thinking that go on in my mind that I cannot control. As I made this request to the Lord, I realized something internally within me was changing.
The Message Bible puts the Scripture this way: “This is the only way we’ll know we’re living truly, living in God’s reality. It’s also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves.” This is trusting God to rearrange the pathways of our thoughts.
As I wrote this blog, I realized that the tenor of our thoughts has a tidal wave of actions that it controls: gist, mood, theme, tone, aim, body, burden, core, course, current direction, drift, evolution, inclination, path, pith, purport, purpose, run, sense, stuff, substance, tendency, trend, way… All of these actions occur in the course of our thoughts.
As you can see by the list of pathways which your thinking responds to (which emanate from the heart) it can be a bit overwhelming. But not to God. You simply ask for help and without interfering with your personal will He quietly and gently helps you enter into the mind of Christ. Wow! What an incredible benefit personal prayer and intercession has!
