God is promoting people like you to positions that have increased in power and responsibility. Yet such enlarged duties have a tendency to cause us to become more cautious about what we do or say. But I am finding an unusual occurrence in “just-in-time” delivery of God’s word. To make it clearer to you, I must explain that God will give you exactly the words you should say at just the right moment.  This is what I mean by just-in-time delivery.
This, of course, goes against the grain of the years of college education and intelligent learning we have achieved from all of our great teachers. They told us we must prepare, study, and get everything exactly in order so when we go to that meeting we are completely artistically, technologically, and intellectually prepared for the encounter. So here is the God of the universe telling you, “Don’t think about it.  Just trust Me and when you get there I’ll tell you what to say”.
Think a moment about the full ramifications of what God is saying here. Jesus is the original One that stated the issue when He said,” And when they bring you into the synagogues, and into the magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye ought to answer, or what ye shall say: for the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye are to say”. Notice in this command He is not referring to some small-time meeting or insignificant event. The Lord is describing major life-changing incidents.  He’s talking about meeting with important dignitaries for their responsive abilities and commissions.
In your case, a comparable lifetime-changing event is something that would cause you to stay awake with worry trying to prepare for it. Instead, the Lord is telling you to give no thought concerning the huge event, and trust the Holy Spirit to teach you exactly what to say.  The sophisticated intellectual responses in your mind will undoubtedly say you’re simply not taking responsibility for your own actions.  But in actuality you are doing just the opposite.  You are willingly giving full control to God and refusing to use your own inadequate intelligence to figure the situation out.
You just need to stop for a moment and think.  This is the God of the universe, the One who created you, the One who calculates everything ~ from the trajectory of the stars to the flow of blood through your heart ~ and this same God desires to take full responsibility for everything involving you!  He will take the most important events in your life and teach you how to deal with all the stressful situations with His incredible craftiness. Wow!  Think about it!  God Himself is willing to help you in the most delicate of situations.  It’s like hiring the most influential law firm in New York City to represent you, no matter how difficult your case is.
This aspect of the Holy Spirit is so advanced and so articulate, that not enough Christians have learned how to take advantage of its use. It’s very simple to understand why. Welcome to the world of “I did it my way”. The desire for self-will is constantly warring in our minds. The apostle Paul spent scores of pages writing about this anguish. But he also gave us the simple fix.  We have just got to die to ourselves. No wonder Jesus said, “Take up your cross and follow Me”.  Every one of us has a cross that we need to nail our self-will to.
Believe me, this is the biggest struggle that I’ve had in my life. Apostle Paul said that he died “daily”. That is a skill I am still struggling with, the daily death of my own self will. I have learned that in the morning I need to wake up and think, “What does the Holy Spirit want me to do today?”  Once this question is established in my mind, I then begin the day-long search to find out what His perfect will is.
This continual kind of searching has literally consumed my whole life.  Yet I am finding there are benefits to this approach that I did not know existed.  At the end of the day you will sleep like a baby, you’ll feel exuberant joy overcome you and fill every fiber of your body, because you know that you are doing His perfect will. I can tell you that following God’s word every day is the most joyful existence you could ever have, and I’m inviting you to live this wonderful exuberant life.  You can be “perfect” even as your Father in heaven is perfect.
Lately I have found that the Holy Spirit has given me tasks that are unique and that I am completely unaccustomed to. The Scripture the Holy Spirit used to introduce me to this new pathway was, “When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down. When you’re between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end.”  This Scripture meant so much because I believe it was the Holy Spirit sharing with me that the instructions He gives me are never going to waste my time nor take me down a dead-end street.  I won’t be left standing there frustrated because it appeared like I accomplished nothing.
This was so important because as the new instructions from God’s daily word are downloaded to me, I realize He is really having me mine new things of gold in my life that I didn’t know existed.  The value of each relationship and experience was making me the richest man on earth.  Oh, I am so overwhelmed by this great discovery and overjoyed by the abundance of finding what Jesus called “the pearl of great price”.
My hope and prayer for every one reading this weekly blog is that you will continue finding the pearls of great price that the Holy Spirit sets before you each and every day.
