It might sound weird to you, but every single day I am caught in the grip of wonder at God’s inspiring miracles and out-of-the-blue surprises. When Sandy and I got married 39 years ago, we believed God to supply a home for us to live in as newlyweds. Two days before our wedding a small apartment was provided for us, this was our first miracle, but God was setting us up for a real surprise.

When the wedding was in full swing I was shocked to see my father sitting on the front row.  I had been told that he would be unable to attend the wedding because of his work schedule.  What a pleasant surprise it was to see him there.  Later, at the wedding reception, my father shook my hand with congratulations.  When I pulled my hand away I found I was holding a thousand dollars!  My father simply said, “Go on a beautiful honeymoon.”  This really amazed Sandy and I because we had limited money and had not even planned on going on a honeymoon.  Now we could do something that was far beyond our expectations.

Sandy’s parents had spent their early married life in Palm Springs so we had decided to make Palm Springs our unexpected honeymoon destination.  For the first time in either of our lives we embarked on an airplane.  I will never forget the incredible wonder we felt when we flew.  We could actually feel the plane floating on the wind and it seemed so unreal and magical!  We had definitely entered into a new dimension of travel.

That first flight raced through my mind like a magical journey.  I was so awe-inspired by the concept that man could actually fly!  I felt like new worlds of possibilities were opening in front of me as we winged our way to Palm Springs.  I must have talked Sandy’s ear off because my young mind was filled with so many ideas as a result of the awesome surprise provided by my earthly father (but really by my heavenly Father.)

This is one of thousands of examples that I could share with you about the surprises that God gives you as bonuses for obeying Him and doing His perfect (and I emphasize perfect) will.  Remember, there are two other wills of God.  There is His “good” will, which is you pretty much doing what you want to do as long as it is in obedience with the principles set down in the Bible.  Then there is the “acceptable” will of God, and usually this involves someone who starts out following God’s perfect will but gets anxious and can’t wait for it to be fulfilled.  They end up with the “acceptable will of God”, which of course is not as good as the perfect but it is still alright.

What I am really emphasizing in this blog is the “perfect will of God.”  You see, it is this last and best option that is loaded with God-sized surprises that create nuclear explosions of joy and excitement.  If somehow I can explain to you how wonderful His perfect will is, because in it you are constantly loaded with bonuses and accumulated benefits that constantly keep on giving and giving to you.  No wonder the Bible says, “The Lord maketh rich and addeth no sorrow with it.”

The Bible is chock full of people that have obeyed God’s perfect will and found their lives loaded with benefits for doing so.  Job experienced this kind of bountiful supply.  King David is honored throughout history because he sought God’s perfect will and reaped the rewards from it ~ and even saw his son become the wealthiest man on earth.  Wow!  Do you realize what God has in store for you? The amazing thing about this simple truth is all you have to do is start obeying His will today.  Remember, it is always the little things, the tiniest obedience, that is exactly what God wants you to do.  He said if you are faithful in little He will make you ruler over much.

Today the Lord told me to exercise with my daughter, wash the dishes, and do some other menial tasks around the house.  As I completed each one the surprises followed ~ yes, and I mean even big surprises ~ the kind that can make your whole month happy.  And wow!  That is for just obeying God for one day.  I cannot wait to see what tomorrow has for me.  What about you?
