Owning land is an important defensive, and offensive, aspect in a Christian’s life of spiritual warfare. We find this all throughout the Bible, but it’s especially important today when it comes to the factor of taking the “strong man’s” house. Jesus taught that one cannot take a strong man’s house until he binds the strong man first. Then he can spoil his goods. This is why land ownership is so important. An example of this is when God spoke to Abraham and told him to walk the land, and every place that the soles of his feet trode would be his. This prophetic act of walking on the land is only the beginning that will lead to ownership, possession ~ and ultimately ~ rulership.
A lot of times we Christians don’t realize that this truth is an important aspect of the condition of the places where we live. To further illustrate, God said that the cry of the cities (or the land) of Sodom and Gomorrah went up to heaven and caused God to come down and destroy them. Jesus, who also did a prophetic act of walking through the land of Israel, referred prophetically to Sodom and Gomorrah, and said they would judge Judea concerning its response to Jesus.
As you’ve probably know a thorough study of this subject would require extensive research of the Bible. But the reason I’m bringing up it to you is because last night my daughter, Rocki, was given a dream. In it she saw her grandmother (my mother, Sister Marilynn) in the house she bought in 1968 in San Francisco. Rocki experienced the complete life of my mother in San Francisco in her dream. It was like she was walking through a museum and saw everything that had happened involving that particular piece of real estate. The dream then switched to the present day. Rocki saw me, her father, invite her to enter into our new home. Rocki was once again a young girl like in the first part of the dream. As she walked into the white marbled mansion she realized that it was the beginning of a second life and this new house would also become a museum.
When Rocki woke up she hurried to tell me the details of the dream. I was surprised because I’d woken up the same morning with a dream about my mother. She was driving through a mammoth Sequoia tree in northern California. When I described the dream to my mother, she told me about an incident that happened in 1965 when she’d first come to California to visit. She drove through the city of San Francisco and then went north to a spot called Drive-Through Tree. The name of the tree was called The Chandelier Tree. The Lord spoke to me to go north that day and drive through the same giant redwood tree. When I heard Rocki’s dream I realized there was a lot of spiritual attention being given to these details and that I must follow through.
When I looked up The Chandelier Tree on the internet I immediately got attacked with a spirit of doubt, because the hole in the tree seemed too small for my Odyssey van (which seats eight people) to drive through. When I asked the Lord if I should take my son’s smaller car instead, the Lord said, “No. Go ahead just like you planned.” I also knew that Brother Timothy Snodgrass was speaking that night at our church and that I needed to be back in time for the service. It seemed pretty much impossible to travel 176 miles, drive through the tree, and get back in time for church, so I asked the Lord a second time if I was doing the right thing. Again the Lord gave me an affirmative “Yes”. To be honest, the journey didn’t make sense to me intellectually, and I didn’t understand what God was trying to do. But I’ve learned through numerous incidents of simple obedience, that I must follow God’s instructions exactly.
At 3:30 in the afternoon we arrived at The Chandelier Tree. I was amazed because I easily drove my van right through the opening in the tree. We then immediately headed back to San Francisco. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the church just before Brother Timothy spoke. Then, in the middle of his sermon, I received an email on my iPad. It was from someone in northern California, and they felt I might be interested in purchasing 69 acres in northern California for a prayer center. As I was reading the email Timothy walked up to me and, in front of the congregation, handed me the microphone. “Richard,” he said, “the Lord wants you to speak now.” I was caught a little off guard because I hadn’t seen him coming. But as soon as he placed the microphone in my hand God gave me an incredible download that explained everything!
A few years ago a good friend of mine, Pastor Bern from Germany, told me a story about Germany’s prayer-warrior king, and how he’d established castles of prayer throughout Germany. More than 500 prayer warriors prayed around the clock for the protection of Germany, and for the first time the nation experienced a period of 60 years of peace. This story showed me the importance of land ownership, and the power and authority it gives one in establishing a spiritual perimeter that evil forces can’t penetrate. Then recently, during a long prayer session with the Lord, God reminded me how my mother had purchased two pieces of property in San Francisco. And even though satan has come against our church, it was the ownership of those two pieces of real estate that had become a defense against spiritual wickedness. Then God told me, “Do not accept just any piece of land that is offered to you. It must be the appropriate land, the appropriate perimeters and sphere of influence that God has allotted to you.”
Unbeknownst to my mother 45 years ago, God was allotting her perimeter around the city of San Francisco that would reach one day all the way to the Chandelier Redwood Tree. (I can’t go into the details, but it also appears that the Lord has given our church other perimeters that reach all the way to the Imperial Desert.) Abraham also walked the land that was allotted to him, but at the time he was only allowed to purchase one piece of property, and that was where he buried his wife Sarah. I’d like to note here that every real estate contract that is signed in the world today is based on the agreement that Abraham made when he purchased the field and the cave that became his wife’s tomb. The full price, the deed, and the witnesses at the gate of the city are the same three elements that exist in real property contracts today.
Abraham established a perimeter by the prophetic act of walking the land. Four hundred years later his descendants were given authority by God to begin possessing the land, and 400 years later David completed the possession. I believe my daughter’s dream was emphasizing the principle that establishing spiritual perimeters around your area is not only about sharing the love of God with people and getting them saved. It’s also about providing a safe perimeter to enable them to continue serving God. It seems today that God is calling for generations of Americans, as well as citizens worldwide, to prayerfully reestablish ancient landmarks. I believe some Christians will even take over nations. There is a family in my church that already owns an entire neighborhood of homes in a foreign country. God has them drawing preliminary lines in that district of the nation.
The world is in one of the most crucial turning points of its history. It’s time for us to repossess the earth. Evil spirits have tried to get us to leave our God-given dreams and focus on scary man-made scenarios, like the world over heating or freezing up, or that the earth is running out of supplies necessary for mankind’s survival. The truth is, God promised that the world would remain, and He wants you to possess it. This is the time for all of us to seek the Lord and ask Him what perimeters He wishes us to set up for our families. These decisions will have a lot to do with the wealth our grandchildren possess.
But don’t think for a moment that you can just “name and claim” anything you want. If God has not allotted something to you, don’t think you can heap something onto your own lusts. It will only end up being totally mangled by opposing spirits because you didn’t have the spiritual authority to do what you did. This is an act that must be initiated by the Father. Only after you receive spiritual confirmation will you be able to fight for the rights to possess the land. And this ownership will give you lasting spiritual authority…
