As I have mentioned to you before in my blogs, God has been calling me to extensive times of intercession, which has afforded me the pleasure of learning to seek His presence into an intimate way of knowing Him personally. I know many traditional religious readers would think I am talking about long periods of time in prayer in some solitude place. But actually it has not been that way at all. Yes, it does involve praying in tongues for long periods of time. Though that might be my physical activity, the focus has become so much more. The best way I can describe this is to call it a daily game of hide and seek ~ the kind I used to play, shivering with the excitement, with my neighborhood friends of my boyhood. Now I’m seeking His presence and His will and doing His daily instructions (no matter how slight and insignificant they may present themselves to my intellect) that He is giving to me. These gentle and very slight instructions are more delicate than the slightest breath of wind. But, wait, it’s even more slighter than that. It is like the exhaust from the breath of the wind. If my full attention is on point and I am focused on what it is that the Holy Spirit is desiring me to do today, then I enter into a fascinating adventure and excitement that literally fills my whole being with God’s presence. And each day this experience is completely renewed, different and unique. And I mean adventure! Last Friday He whispered to me in the morning, “It is time to go to the top of Mount Hamilton and I will meet you there.” After the extensive drive with my family, a winding 20-mile prayer journey to the top, the Lord spoke to my family that we are coming to a crossroads with our destiny. Then Rocki began to lead us in an hour-long prayer for every person we know. The prayer was so accurate about what God is going to do that it was actually prophetic. On the way home we were caught in a traffic jam on the 101 freeway for nearly 3 1/2 hours, because power lines had fallen completely across the 101 freeway. It was such a wonderful adventure as we walked alongside the cars parked on the freeway and prayed for people. All that adventure happened in just one day! As I get closer to the actual presence of God, it is being revealed to me what the Lord’s true intentions are. But this has been completely discombobulating to my normal way of thinking. I am discovering that the Lord’s intentions of fixing things go much further than I thought was even possible or imaginable. This explains my ever present need for patience. If a plumber came to my house to fix a faucet (the plumber is you, the intercessor) it might take a few hours. But if in the process of working on the faucet he discovered that something was wrong with the water supply, suddenly it becomes something that involves the entire city of San Francisco ~ the water department, the mayor, and might go all the way to Hetch Hetchy dam in Yosemite, which is San Francisco’s water source. What I’m saying is that many times you were praying for a personal problem and the reason God doesn’t fix it immediately is because your problem is one that all of the people around you are also suffering from, and maybe even affects the entire nation. For a moment let us look at the story of Abraham, who is the first intercessor in the Bible. He is dealing with a promise that God made about him and Sarah about giving birth to a son. So God visits his house and tells them that He’s going to fix their plumbing and a son will be born to them in one year. But then He says there’s something else that He must do first, and that is to deal with the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah ~ the city where Abraham’s relative Lot was currently living. So Abraham began his intercession and said, “Would You destroy the whole city for 50 righteous?” The negotiation continued until the number came down to 10 righteous people ~ all that God needed to save the entire city. Many times in your prayer and intercession, as you were speaking tongues, you were talking about negotiations in the language of the Holy Spirit with the presence of God concerning our city, its future, and the little miracle you need in your life. Remember, God is always dealing with the big picture and in fixing your problem He will also fix the bigger problem that the whole city is experiencing. So now let’s go back to the big problem that something bad is in San Francisco’s entire water supply. After much inspection we discover that the problem is that rust is causing a virus in all of the pipes of the city all the way to Hetch Hetchy dam. As you intercede, the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God about the problem and comes up with a solution. In this made-up instructive example, a company develops an antidote that can be placed in the water that completely seals every single pipe in the entire network and cures the city of the rust problem ~ but it may take a little while for the cure to be complete. Hopefully this example shows how the spirit of intercession works in our life and affects the neighborhood, the city, and the nation we live in. As you can see, the Lord’s patience and consideration concerning details are immeasurable. The most wonderful part of this attribute is how fun and joyful the process is if you understand and consider His ways. It would do good for us to take time to observe, consider, and read the ways that He has blessed us recently. We would then understand His plans for our personal futures and the blessings that He’s bringing upon us all. In the book of Romans, the third and fourth chapters, Apostle Paul discusses the reason that God was angry with a generation because they did not know His ways, they did not remember His ways, and they did not consider His ways. When you understand why God fixes things, you begin to realize how joyful and refreshing it is to rest in confidence ~ with the attributes and ways of the Lord.
